Holiday Retail Trends
Nike, Chanel, and American Eagle ranked high on the Consumer Sentiment Index.
TODAY’S STORY
Consumers are expected to spend nearly ~$1 trillion in total in November and December, and they’ve already started to indicate their favorite retailers.
Nike remained the clear leader in the Consumer Sentiment Index, with 2.5 times more respondents ranking it No.1 than the next name on the list. Chanel ran away with the luxury segment, and American Eagle stood out to younger consumers.
Stock performance doesn’t always follow consumer sentiment, though. The survey’s findings contrast Nike and American Eagle’s recent stock performance, down 25% and 7% year-to-date, respectively.
The survey also found that the No. 1 factor driving a shopper to a competitor is not having the product they’re looking for in stock. Therefore, this holiday shopping season's winners will rigorously follow the mantra “right product, right place, right time.”
