Grocery stores go crazy for pizza
From in-store ovens to partnerships with local pizza parlors, grocery stores are ramping up their pizza offerings.
TODAY’S STORY
Grocery stores want a bigger slice of pizza sales.
Supermarket chains are expanding their pizza offerings to attract customers:
Walmart announced a partnership with Texas-based Mr. Gatti’s Pizza to open up 92 corporate-owned units inside Walmart locations across Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Kentucky
Regional chain Giant Food teamed up with Maryland-based Ledo Pizza to sell their square pizzas in their grocery stores
Specialty grocery store The Fresh Market launched a new hot & fresh Neapolitan-style pizza
Grocery stores also rake in the dough with frozen pizza. According to Circana, Americans spent $7.4 billion on frozen pizza over the last 12 months ending in July, more than on frozen breakfast foods, snacks, or baked goods.
